As a loyal fan of Gentoo Linux and after I saw Ubuntu’s1, Fedora’s, and openSUSE’s countdown timers for new releases, I felt an obligation and immense urge to create a counterpart for the mighty Gentoo Linux. For its glory, for its awesome, for its simpleness, and for its infinite releasing. (I am such a fanboy, haha)
Here it is:
And the HTML code for pasting:
<a href="http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUWWFwNJcFJPVkvoMHoEj8tlclB8ShULVYmgB4AuuXD0bkheZa0bgFGKhWZj5QDcS-mg7UpyFAzJzZ33CRZMZTcGfAXgrqokjeXulEWzetT9HFtmm8N3LaUyjSFEFfL-zIHPy7G8NBsWU/s1600/gentoo-countdown.png" width="180" height="150" border="0"/></a>
The interpretation of this countdown timer is:
gentoo linux [infinity]
[g] seconds
till next
sync of
Portage
[[new] gentoo] is here as always
This countdown timer is never going to be out of date, always suitable for upcoming release of Gentoo. No need to update the image, it would stay accurate forever.
It was created with Inkscape, uses Lennart Andre Rollard’s vector logo (CC-BY-SA/2.5), is licensed under the same CC-BY-SA/2.5 license. You can grab the SVG on Gist.
I had actually thought about creating an repository on GitHub, so file hosting would be easier and more Gentoo users can contribute their artworks for Gentoo simply. But as you may know that I do not possess such artistic talent, changing attributes in Inkscape is the best I can do. So, I will leave advocation task for real gifted people. :)
PS. I believe Gentoo Linux had never been released with a codename “Infinity,” the name here was a made-up.
