In 2005, there was a very popular instant noodles commercial in Taiwan, the name of the running girl, “張君雅”, was well known, because of 張君雅小妹妹 from the opening line. I was amazed by the creative idea of this ads, not to mention it’s kind of funny as most commercials are.

Until a few days ago, a recommended video popped up, one very old commercial almost like antique, Anthony! Anthony!

It’s a commercial for Prince pasta brand of Borden at the time—sold to New World Pasta in 2001. A really long running ads for decades, circa 1969-1984. Decades before this Taiwanese commercial in 2005.

When I first watched it, I felt a certain degree of resemblance, figuratively. It may looks like a completely different idea, but it’s actually the same. One entirely uses PA concept other than simple voice-over, but both are pitching the idea of the products.

The running scenes don’t seem to be same because much different looking streets, but running through the streets with an urge going home for a good meal that the family has prepared for them, that’s the main point.

Both became popular because of their names being shouted out in almost comical way.

Don’t know if “Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day” in all Bostonians’ minds, but the company from Boston’s North End definitely has long history since they just marked 100th anniversary last year.

Do I see this 2005 ads as a plagiarism? Yes, I do.
