Last August, Bitbucket implemented a new voting system for issue tracker, just one month after an issue was created for the annoying “+1” issue, Don’t allow people to post +1 on an issue tracker (BB-8952).

Months later, much less than a year, they now have just implemented a “+1” comment detection, about four hours ago:

If you now attempt to post a “+1” comment, then you will be prompted with the following message:

Voting on this issue will get it more attention than a +1 alone, click to add your vote instead.

Truth to be told, I disagree the reason, it’s not true. When you have 100 notifications emailed to 100 different people about “+1” and 100 votes. Which do you think get your more attention? No doubt, it’s first, not only you get the attention, you also most likely to get a couple of death threats if not more. Joking aside, you can choose to vote or still to comment if you insist.

Frankly, even I am really happy to see Bitbucket taking care of this issue — months after issue creation, yup, that is considered as a quick resolution, believe or not — It’s kind of a bit of late for having an educational effect, when this voting system was just in place, many people still didn’t know about it and others started kindly or rudely introducing the feature to the those +1ers (is that even a word?).

Since then, I hardly saw any “+1,” maybe once a email notification, and that’s about it. At the rate of 1/month, I’d not bitch much about the poster. So, it’s kind of late.

Anyhow, still good to see it around, because that would reduce to almost 0 per month, but it would never be 0 as we all know once a troll, always a troll — read the comment after the resolution comment.
