The .pro gTLD (generic top-level domain) was introduced in 2004 and had very restricted registration. In 2008, it only had 6,899 according to Wikipedia. In 2011, it’d grown to 100k and more.

The eligibility requires, according the registry:

  1. Provides professional services.
  2. Validated by a government certification body or government-recognized jurisdictional entity that regularly verifies the accuracy of its data.
  3. In good standing with its authority.

Registrants have to provide:

  1. Identification
  2. Contact information
  3. Profession-specific information such as ID number

I couldn’t stop to wonder which country or what “profession association” provides such certification? Does the profession read on the certificate: “Spamming?”

Maybe it’s Spamming Engineering?
