Less than a day, two people commented on my YouTube videos which are about their projects, and another comment just three days ago. Once in a while, I will get a comment like those.
I never let the people know I make a video of those project, because I feel it’d be like a spam if I were the one to receive such message like that for my own project. I don’t think being without the notification to the author is a lack of courtesy, in fact, I make sure the description includes the link and the author’s full name unless it’s just a user name, then I will skip that. I will even try to find out the real name with the email address if present in commit.
Honestly, I always feel surprised when the author chimes in, and thanks me or provides more information about the project, even clarify the things I write in the description. Quite a portion of those authors who finds the video would even link to or embed my videos in project’s web page. Sometimes, they will tell me; otherwise, I revisit to check for updates and see a thumbnail vaguely familiar, then realize that it is the video I make.
Years ago, I searched my own stuff, but I hardly did that nowadays. Why do we search our own stuff? Is it a way to seek for acknowledgment for your creations? Or a proof of worthy or usefulness for your projects? Simple curiosity?
Maybe all of them, perhaps none of above. If I got a psychology degree, I might have an answer for that question. The reason behind doesn’t really matter, what does is there would a joy to bring to either party.
I smile every time when I receive a such comment.
